Exclamation Where do I go next?

I can't find my relative through the search here. Unfortunately we don't know many details. His name is Charles William Radburn born 25/01/08. He came from Buckinghamshire/Oxfordshire but we belive he walked to the south west to join the Cornwall light infantry (possibly adding a year or two to his age. We know he served in India and burma and was recalled for WW2 to train recruits

Please can anyone tell me how to search further. I can't afford ancestry at the moment.

    Hello Rachel

    Welcome to British-Genealogy.

Charles would have joined the army after 1922 so his service records are still held by the MoD.

As he has been deceased for less than twenty-five years unless he is a direct ancestor then you will need the permission of his next of kin to apply for the full records.
It will cost £30, and you also have to send a copy of the death certificate, the application form and the Certificate of Kinship form.
I would advise you to read the 'click here' link to 'For more information' before you send for the records.

You can still apply for the records without the permission of the next of kin, but you will receive a shortened version of the records. See here for details.

    Hi

With Ancestry or Find My Past, you can buy just 1 month subscription, look at everything you need to and cancel it or untick the renew button to stop further charges. At around $20 Aus it is quite cheap. FMP also seems to be having specials at the moment for $5. Just make sure to cancel.
Unfortunately there are no free records online.
Read this guide also for WW1 - https://www.1914-1918.net/soldiers/research.html
Not many WW2 records online - Pam has advised you how to get them.

    regards

    Robert
