Default Mary Neil born Bantry, Cork, Ireland c.1838

Mary was my G.G. Grandmother who married G.G. Grandfather James Thomas Welch in St. Saviour's, Southwark, London in 1871. I can't find any further information about her - when she came to England, parents, etc. Can anyone help please?

Full marriage details courtesy Ancestry's London Parish Registers:

24 December 1871 at St Peter Southwark James Thomas WELSH, full age, bachelor, Labourer, 4 Russell Place, father Isaac WELSH, Labourer & Mary NEIL, full age, spinster, 4 Russell Place, father Daniel NEIL, Clerk. Both signed and the witnesses were George Pilney? PATTERSON, Arthur Henry WELCH & Sarah Ann BLUNSON?

Ancestry have transcribed Mary's surname as EMIL which has probably confused everyone!

This could perhaps be Mary in the 1871 census of Stepney (RG10/515, folio 31, pages 57/8):

    8 Halifax Street

Daniel NEIL Head Mar 57 Market Porter Cork Ireland
Mary do Wife Mar 57 do do
Mary do Daur Unm 30 Rag Sorter do do
William do Son Unm 19 Brick Laborer do do
Daniel do Son Unm 17 Greengrocers Man do do

The same family are in the 1861 census of Whitechapel (RG9/267, folio 89, page 26) living at 4 Ely Place. In case you do not already have it, James WELCH & his family are in the 1851 census of Southwark (HO107/1558, folio 408, page 53) living at 12 Bedford Row.

I have the same census as you Janet.

I've been looking for 1841 but can't find them

    See Janbooth's post

I searched for Sarah Ann Blunson in the 1871 census and she worked as a servant with Mary Neil, so is not from the Whitechapel family.
Thank you Janet for finding that information. I still can't find it on Ancestry

George Pilney? PATTERSON, on Janet post should be George Tilney Patterson (1838-1925) James Thomas Welch brother -in -Law married to Ruth Welch his sister.

Are you sure it's not your Mary Neil because thats the only one I'm finding on Ancestry with a father's name Daniel Neil as in Janets post
