    Hi Peter,

Thanks for your input. I don't think Thomas' birth cert would have any more info than his brother James' which doesn't state mothers maiden name. I have his baptism which doesn't have any extras on it.

    Thanks again,

    regards

    Lesley

Default RE; Military family research - LOWRIE

Thanks to everyone that sent info in reply to my query.

I think I sent thanks to each of you, if not I am sorry and thanks again to everyone for your input.

This family has been very interesting to research with Colonels etc coming out of every nook and cranny, and would love to be able to find out where the military really began for this family.

I shall keep going as there are some clues already ....just need to fit them together.

    One last question.....
Does anyone know where I should look for info on the Royal Artillery in the West Indies in the early 19c? I've looked but can't find what I am after..perhaps I'm not looking in the right place!

    Kind regards
    Lesley

Thomas Lowrie b 1845 married Elizabeth Cantrill/Cautrill in 1873 in Sheffield.....the writing on the service record looks like Caurell ?

free BMD has his surname as Lourie

    Joseph Cantrill b 1819

    Elizabeth Cantrill b 1854.

    Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your input and info.

This family can be confusing as they didn't seem to like many other names for their sons and stuck with Thomas just to confuse all and sundry, so I thought maybe this would help...

A line of ascent for this family is as follows.....

    Father ……Col. Thomas C Lowrie OBE 1911-1989

Grandfather …. Thomas Joseph Lowrie 1883-1951 Company Quarter Master Sergeant married to Lillie Annie Reeve

1 x gt grandfather …..Thomas Lowrie 1845 – 1913 Tailor and soldier 1881 - sergeant in army /1891 - Warrant Officer Infantry/1901 - Yeoman Warder at Tower of London/1911 - Yeoman Warder at Tower of London married twice...wife #1 Elizabeth Cantrill wife #2 Mary Croft

    2 x gt. Grandfather….Thomas Lowrie bc 1814? Died c 1853-1861 married to Catherine ?

I have all info prior to 2 x gt grandfather Thomas. This is who I am trying to prize out of the woodwork. There are variants on the spelling of the surname, but this time they have been pretty good and kept the same spelling all through, although the transcribers don’t seem to like it that way!

I hope this has helped make things clearer.

    Kind Regards
    Lesey
