The Imperial War Museum (IWM) has an ongoing project to record the details of all the war memorials in the UK, and currently there are about 65,000 on its database. The memorials are crosses, halls, gardens, benches, plaques and more; they record service personnel, civilians, animals - and even cups of tea! (The memorial at Dingwall Railway Station in the Highlands commemorates the 134,864 cuppas served there to servicemen between 1915-1918.)

I chanced upon this on the IWM's War Memorial blog: https://ukniwm.wordpress.com. It's been going some time, so lots to read.

This is an ongoing project, with all the fieldwork being done by volunteers. Could be you?
