Can anyone tell me any details about 5 Bty. 3rd Maritime Regiment, Royal Artillery and where they where on 13/11/1941. My great uncle served with them and it states he was killed at sea but his body is buried at falmouth in the war graves. Any information would be very welcome. Thanks

By a process of elimination there are 3 casualties who died on 13/11/1941 -buried in Falmouth Cemetery - 2 RA men Robert Devine and Jack Bernard James + 1 Royal Navy man - Sydney Tindale
Looking on the naval history website - Tindale was on the steamship Joma when he died and a websearch suggests Joma (a Dutch cargo vessel) hit at a mine and sank at Falmouth on 13/11/1941 with 3 killed
So it seems likely that your great uncle was one of the other 2 casualties. As their bodies were obviously recovered their deaths were registered in the Falmouth district so you could purchase a death cert from the GRO if you wanted

I can't add further to what SueNSW has stated. Confirmed as aboard JOMA.

13 Nov 1941
Thursday 13th November 1941 saw one of the many air raids on Falmouth. High Explosive Bombs were dropped at Mylor, causing civilian casualties, and at Trefusis. Mines were also frequently dropped into the harbour and the Carrick Roads and the Admiralty War Diary says "sunk in Falmouth harbour presumed by old mine". It's difficult to know whether it was a mine from a previous raid or one dropped that night. The ship was lifted so there is no wreck in situ.
