My father Douglas P Marr was a survivor of WW1. He served as a Private foot soldier throughout the war and had machine gun wounds and damaged lungs from mustard gas. I have his war service medals - marked "1515 PTE. D. P. Marr. 7-LOND. R."
But I can find no trace of him on this website! Please can anyone give me more guidance on how to research further?
Thanks,
Colin Marr

Hello Colin
you are now on the British-Genealogy forum which is sponsored by FWR
Over 60% of WW1 records were destroyed by bombing/fire in WW11 and those that survived are licensed to ancestry. However both The National Archives and ancestry have the Medal Roll Index Cards and there is one for your man Douglas Trimrose Marr
He was in the London Regiment, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex) Regiment, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex) Regiment and has three regiment numbers 1515, 9568, 205324.
Both ancestry and TNA are pay per view sites,TNA allows you to download for a small payment. ancestry does have a free library version. Your local library may have it?

Hi
As usual Ancestry has his middle name wrong- it is Primrose, clearly spelt so!
Don't worry about FWR.
He was also given a Silver War Badge - the card shows his enlistment and discharge. There will also be a SWB roll on Ancestry.

No service or pension records- so presumably destroyed in WW2
Read here to find out how to research more- https://www.1914-1918.net/soldiers/research.html

I am so grateful to you all for these quick replies - thank you. Indeed, Douglas's middle name was Primrose and I am sure he was teased about this throughout his life. The explanation is that he was born on 'Primrose Day', 19 April, which must have been a notable date in 1895. I will follow up the references you have given me, but any more information that comes to mind would be most welcome.
Best wishes, Colin
