I've just read the description and it does match the description. I'm intrigued, defiantly interested in finding out more if I can.
Thanks, I will try to email the photo, perhaps it would be easier to reply direct to me to peterDOThensonAThotmailDOTcom and I will email the photo to your email.

Yes that's it. Does this mean my ancestor was a Freemason or was this type of membership common place back in the day?
Would be interesting to find out more about Alban Henson if poss.
Thanks - Peter.

the post Gasser made was correct then. The medal/jewel was awarded in 3 varietys....to the lodges who contributed to the fund to build a memorial to those who had died in WW1. The jewels awarded to lodges were of gilt finished silver appended to a light blue collaret and are worn by masters of lodges that contributed an average of 10 guineas per member. So it looks like you have a medal/jewel awarded to a master of lodge number 554 and his name was A Henson.

The medal was not awarded to any serviceman,,,but to the master of the lodge for contributing towards the building of a memorial for those freemasons who died in the war,,i hope this clears things up.
