Yes I also think he has to be the correct bloke. Possibly it is just the story of his death that has become a little tangled over the years.

I think this clinches it, Jaques says #6 that Sarah Catton was later known as Sarah Todd.
1911, 68 Wallace Street, Woodhouse Leeds. RG14; Piece: 26883.

He attested Nov 1915, service number: 127184, Royal Garrison Artillery.
His next of kin is named as Annie Brown, unmarried wife.
Children: Thomas 23rd Sept 1906, Elsie 24th Apr 1910, Herbert 17th Jun1912, Wilfred Lawrence 22nd Jan 1915, all born Leeds. Address: 9, Rochford Grove, Hunslet.
His next of kin had been named Sarah Todd, 12, Elmfield St, Oldfield Rd, Leeds, but those details were crossed through.
