Hi,
I am new to search, and have spent my first 3 sessions going round in circles and have got nowhere.
I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction to trace my grandfather's records
The only family information I have is as follows:-
Henry John Rose. born 1882
He was a driver in the R.F.A. and saw action in:-
La Bassee, Camprai Arras, Ypers and St.Quentin
I have a photo of him in uniform taken in 1917, and sporting a full waxed moustache and a 'group photo'
I also have an artillery shell casing which has been beautifully etched with the R.F.A. badge, a decorated heart with the words HEARTS AND HANDS etched around the work and also the above named actions.
He fought in the war to end all wars and survived only to be bombed out some 10 years later and lose a son at the battle Monte Casino and another son serving in Europe who contracted TB and died.
Any help would be so helpful, 'Lest we forget' I can send a copy of photographs if it would be help.
Kind regards
Dickie

HI Dickie
DO you have a service number? There are lots of Henry J Roses with Medal Index Cards for the RFA, without it you will not be able to narrow things down. Read this for some ideas- https://www.1914-1918.net/soldiers/research.html

Thanks Robert,
Unfortunately I do not have my granddad's service number, or what medals he was awarded or what happened to them.
I will have a go, I'm finding it difficult to find my way around all these sites, but onwards and upwards
regards
Dickie
