    Thumbs down RNVR

My grandfather Robert Jesse Warnes was in RNVR and at Gallipoli. I put his name and fact that he survived into your database hatand received a 0 result? what am I doing wrong?
I also received this for James Beston....who survived and was in the DLI.....have I wasted my money????

Yes, don't pay until you search!
    Applies to all sites.

Yes. There is no fee for researching where records are likely to be.

    Read this research Guide first.

Not all records have survived. If he continued in the RNVR after the end of the war, his records may not have been released by the Ministry of Defence. You can apply for a copy if appropriate.

The search on FWR is free of charge also -if there were no results after your paid there'd be no results before either.

For less common names it is ALWAYS worth searching before paying since no site is going to guarantee a 'find' as it's historically impossible (unless you have a delorean!) to find some of these records now.

Looks good, Hugh. There's a corresponding birth entry with middle name Jesse in the GRO indexes.

    Thanks for that Peter.

He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. His rating was DH = Deck Hand and his official number 7884/DA indicated he served in the Trawler Section RNR.

Note* If the right person then he was RNR not RNVR.

Perhaps this thread should not be in the Army section.
    Regards
    Hugh
