    Default So sad

A few months ago I was pleased to find a newspaper report of my gt. uncle's death in the Dardanelles, because it included a transcript of the letter his mother received from his platoon and company commander, which gave a few more details about how he had died, and was something that I had not seen before.

Today, I suddenly thought I wonder what happened to his company commander, so I searched the CWG's site, and there he was dying of his wounds in Belgium in late October 1918. So near to the end, and aged just 25.

When he wrote to my gt. grandmother in August 1915, he would have only been 22, just a year older than Gt uncle John.

Its difficult to comprehend how one so young could have seen and experienced so much horror and loss, and in the end its not possible to make sense of any of it, and can only conclude how sad it all was and is.
