FREDERIC ABRAHAM PHILLIPS -EVELINA SOLOMON

In this new thread I will post data on Frederick aka Frederic Abraham Phillips 1840-1911 and his wife Evelina Solomon aka Eva Charlotte daughter of Josiah Solomon and Bella Hart. I will also provide information on the marriage of Henry Frederic Phillips one of the son's of Frederic and Eva to Julia Septima MANDELSON daughter of Levy Mandelson and Sarah Cohen.
In an earlier thread "Herbert Courlander 1875-1948" I had posted data on the marriage of Herbert Courlander to Rossi Mabelle MANDELSON in 1907. Rossi also being a daughter of Levy Mandelson and Sarah Cohen- see #4 of the thread.
Herbert Courlander was the son of Louis Courlander and Gertrude Hart. The Hart and Courlander lines connect through marriage. Gertrude Hart was the daughter of Aaron Hart and Ann Rebecca Crawcour my 3x great grandparents. Aaron Hart was the brother of Bella Hart.

The Levy Mandelson line in its turn connects to Peter Benjamin Mandelson, Baron Mandelson of Foy b 1953 - Levy Mandelson being his great grandfather on his paternal line - see Mail online 9 Nov, 2008 "Mandelson's family history" and on Wikipedia.

There is an interesting article in the Mail online 9 Nov, 2008 which describes the potential unconfirmed reference to a Napthali Felthusen who changed his name to Nathan Mandelson after fleeing to England where he married in 1830 Phoebe daughter of Jacob Levy Cohen of Leicester before later leaving for Australia and settling there. What is interesting to my research is that the article describes Napthali Felhusen as being ( no data found to support the claim) a Colonel in the 13th Polish Lancers who fought with the Russian 1st army against Napoleon in 1812. For his ervice he was awarded a coat of arms. There is a degree of similarity in this description with that made by Adelina De Lara the famous pianist who descends from my Crawcour lines who also claimed that her family were descended from an important military Polish Jewish family - Cracour- who served in the Austrian army.
Whether or not the two families link or the two stories are fiction remains to be determined.

There is a range of data on the Synagogue Scribes and Cemetery Scribes websites relating to Frederick Abraham Phillips - Cemetery Scribes ID 9416; The Marriage of his parents - Synagogue Scribes Marriages HSM 226- Joseph Phillips -Moshe Joseph Mr 28 Sept 1835 Fore Street Cripplegate- father's Hebrew name Moshe Reuben Segal or Levy- Charlotte MOZELY- Tsharna- father's Hebrew name Jacob b Eleazer Behr Svansea- Mr Joseph Mosely of Swansea Glamorganshire.
Synagogue Scribes Will Extracts NA 411 Solomon Phillips otherwise Moses Selig 28 May 1816 suggest that he maybe the father of Joseph Phillips. Reference in the extract records he was a Public Minister serving the Hambro Synagogue with children- Joseph; Mordecai and Abraham- Cemetery Scribes ID 9411 -Joseph Phillips ( Moshe Joseph b Moshe Reuben Segal or Levy- b 1781 Warden of Hambro Synagogue 1835 and Jeweller 1841.
in the 1841 Wales Census there are:
HO107 1426 4 29 1 (Crown Copyright,TNA) Goat St Swansea Glamorgan- Jacob Mosely 70 Watchmaker; Abigail Mosely 60; Emma Mosely 20; Abraham Mosely 20; Ann a Mosely 15 all born in county- this is likely to be the parents and siblings of Charlotte Mozely aka Mosely.

There are several family trees which record Jacob Mosely 1771- 22 March 1845 Swansea Glamorgan married Abigail Phillips 1781-1844. I have yet to confirm the accuracy of these records.

This post provides some brief data on Bella Josephine Phillips 1880-1959 daughter of Frederick and Eva. The GRO Birth Index Record- Bella Josephine Phillips Sept qtr 1880 Kensington 1a 62. Her Marriage- Bella J Phillips March qtr 1922 Paddington 1a 155- Maurice Barnett. The couple appear in the London Electoral Rolls in 1938 at 130 Court Lane Dulwich.
Probate- Bella Josephine BARNETT otherwise Belle Josephine widow 24 Campden Hill Court Kensington London died 17 March 1959. Probate to the Public Trustees £21655 0s 10d. GRO Death Index Record- Bella J Barnett b abt 1880 March qtr 1959 age 79 Kensington London 5c 1504
There appear to be no children from the marriage.
