    Default CECIL HUBERT AARON HART 1893-1916 AIF

    This thread should be linked to an earlier thread Bernard Hart 1859-1929- Rachel Pyke -2011. In this thread I will post some data on Sergeant Cecil Hubert Aaron Hart 1893-1916 who died WW1. He was born Aaron H C Hart 1893 Bathurst NSW son of Bernard Hart and Rachel Pyke. Bernard was the son of Aaron Hart and Rebecca Crawcour. I have posted a range of data on the Hart/Crawcour and associated families on this forum and relatives/readers should use the search facility for further reading.
    The AIF online project has a range of data on the death of Cecil including copies of original accounts of his death by members of his battalion.
    Sergeant Cecil Hubert Aaron Hart 18th battalion Australian Army WW1 -Death 26 July 1916 . Buried Villers- Bretonneaux Memorial- Villers Bretonneaux Picardie France Panel 85 Australian War Memorial.
    Australian Red Cross Society Wounded and Missing Enquiry Bureau Files 1914-18 War- Sergeant Cecil Hubert Aaron Hart 18th Battalion -1DRL/0428
    ... Informant states that on July 26 1916 at Pozieres he saw Hart lying dead in Pozieres Wood, killed by a piece of shell in the head. Death was instanteneous. His Christian name was Cecil and should be Sergeant Hart of 5 Plattoo.. He was a splendid fellow and liked by all. Lt Hobbs of 18th Battalion B Coy, can give full particulars of Sgt Hart's death.

    The above description is one of several accounts of Cecil's death. There is a photograph of Cecil in uniform.
    In The Sydney Morning Herald Sat 16 Sept, 1916 there appeared the notice from Rosina Hart his aunt and Albert Goldsmid his uncle and husband of Phoebe Hart.
    Hart- killed in action in France, July 26 1916 Sergeant Cecil A Hart age 23 years GRHS. He fought and died a hero.. his loving aunt Rosie Hart and uncle Albert A Goldsmid

    The Hebrew Standard of Australasia Fri 10 Nov 1916 carried a further description of Cecil's death written by a former school friend also stating he was due to be commissioned prior to his death.
