Hello everyone,

I've only been researching my family history for about a year now. Very interested in the following surnames: Campbell, Scott, Long, McNulty, Poole, Sawin, and possibly Oden. At least the names to date. I'm sure there are more. Definitely encountered hiccups in tracing family tree especially when looking at members who immigrated to the US during the 1800's, or those who moved between Ireland, Scotland, and England before heading to the US. Tips on how to research British/Irish census records would be greatly appreciated.

Only been doing genealogy for a year? Not a full blown addict yet then?

There are many sites to help in your research in England, Ireland and Scotland. Some free some not.
The main pay per view/sub sites are findmypast (FMP) ancestry and Scotlands People. ancestry may have their free library version at your local library or you could sign up for a free 14 day trial to both FMP and ancestry to try them out. Remember to cancel before the 14 days are up or they will charge you for a full 12 months.

There are free sites such as Freereg and Freecen which are making records freely available online but are works in progress. There is also familysearch.org which has records from around the world and not forgetting FreeBMD which has births/marriages/deaths from the start of registration in England and Wales from Sept 1/4 1837 to 1983.
Type 'Cyndi's list' in to a search engine and you will get links to hundreds of sites for researching in many countries.

May I suggest you choose an appropriate forum for a puzzle you need help with and post the details so our super sleuths can get to work.
