You'll find his father's name and occupation from a copy marriage certificate. Look at https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl and find a marriage registered at Walsingham in Dec quarter 1844. There are 2 brides and 2 grooms, James EGGLETON who likely married Jane NELSON and Martha EGGLETON and Jane BETTS..........I bet (no pun intended :-) the Jane should be John.

Welcome to British-Genealogy. As this is a research thread I have moved it from Introduce Yourself to the Norfolk forum, where it might attract the notice of local experts.

    Spot on, Sue.

One marriage certificate duly found (and a postem added to the entry on FreeBMD). https://
    familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11020-23666-23?cc=1416598&wc=M66Y-TTP:30268301,29373001,30344101

This is the first page of the baptism register for Great Ryburgh 1813-1832
    https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3....59202,29657201

but the baptisms for that period seem to have been transcribed to FreeREG and there doesn't seem to be an entry for John with father Edward. (Though do please double-check as I have limited battery left on my computer at the moment.) https://www.freereg.org.uk/

You can check on FreeREG to see if John was baptised in another parish. People often say they were born in the first place they remember living in, which is not necessarily either where they were born or baptised.
