I am trying to find information on Arthur Worsley Powell who was the son of William Powell.
Not for the Powell family as such but for the fact that ANNIE DAVIES was taken in by William Powell
when she was orphaned aged about ten in Bendigo Australia. Annnie married my relative John Robert Clark.
in 1899 when she puts on her marriage certificate that her father was William Powell gentleman.

Want to find out why she was taken in by him. Annie was the daughter of James Davies and Susan Bosley both form Wales. Susan died in 1884 and three years later James committed suicide next to her grave in Bendigo in 1887 leaving all their eight children.

Can't progress this more in Australia so thought I might try to find if present day descendents of WP. All I know about him is that he was apparently from Yorkshire and married Hannah Worsley form Leeds who was born c1832 who sailed from Liverpool on the James Baines in 1855 to Melbourne (?)

Believe they had four children - the son Arthur as below. Another who died in Africa in 1899, a third son
believed died as a child. Their only daughter Grace Elizabeth died age 9 in 1875 at Echuca street Bendigo.

I have found the following for son Arthur Powell:


POWELL Arthur Worlsey L. F. P. & S. Glas. surgeon, Dyvnaint, Epslanade road, PAIGNTON

Australian papers report William Powell and his wife sailing to England in 1900 (?)- hannah died on the way -
where WP and "his grandson" visited WP's native town in Yorkshire so Arthur must have been married
and had children.


In the 1911 census he is down at the Langham Hotel London so would just have been there visiting I assume.
Can someone find him in the previous census?


CONCLUSION! Thought i'd go down the Powell avenue since I can't find out about Annie Davies
and her connection to the Powell family.
