I have just found this information and I hope someone can help and tell me how I could find more information and may be what happened to him.

New South Wales, Australia, Police Gazettes, 1854-1930
Desertion
From H.M.S Penguin at Sydney on 4 July 1912 Claude Algernon burrows Private Royal mariner born England 26 years .

Are there any web sites I could go to.

He appears on the 1911 census of the Royal Navy, Australian & South African Vessels, England:

Claude Algernon BURROWS, aged 24, single, born Liverpool Lancashire and is shown as Church of England.

You could also look at Trove website for any newspaper reports about him. Have you the details about his parents & siblings from English census records?
