    Default Ancestral Atlas

Ancestral Atlas is an interactive genealogical mapping facility that has links to A Vision Of Britain Through Time (that fascinating University of Portsmouth site). It is free to use, though paid (superior?) membership is also available. Basically, it enables you to plot the lives and movements of your folks on maps. It is possible to keep your information quite private OR to share it. This is the link to the site: https://www.ancestralatlas.com/ancest...ng-network.php (I think I'm allowed to put it!) The site is the brainchild of a computer engineer, a geographer and a surveyor. I believe it can be used worldwide.

Has anyone out there used Ancestral Atlas? And if so, how useful is it?

Have been meaning to post this question for some time but only now nudged into doing so on reading the latest topic on Mapping Software here: https://www.british-genealogy.com/for...pping-Software. (Obviously, Ancestral Atlas isn't quite the same thing, hence this new thread.)

I remember looking at something vaguely similar many years ago called "curious fox" where you could search on place name to see who else had lived there in the past. I'm not sure if the idea really took off, as it relied on having enough people submit information to make it work. I haven't used Ancestral atlas, but it looks as though you have to subscribe to use the mapping facility to map your own family data.
