Default Bish and Shaw in British Columbia, Canada

    Hello,

Members of the Bish and Shaw families from England, emigrated to Canada between 1907 and 1919.

    Walter Abraham Shaw:
    - Born on 17 Nov 1883 in Holloway, London, England.
    - Died on 8 May 1953 in Coquitlam, BC. He was a photographer in Victoria, BC.

His wife Alice Lizzie Bish, my grand aunt:
    - Born on 24 Jan 1883 in Croydon, Surrey, England.
    - Died on 28 January 1970 in Victoria, BC.

    Their daughter Myrtle Alice Shaw:
    - Born on 24 May 1922 in St Joseph's Hospital, Victoria, BC.
    - Died on 10 June 2004 in Victoria General Hospital, Victoria, BC.

Myrtle’s first husband was Francis Earnest Lane:
    - Born on 14 Nov 1919 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
    - Died on 9 Nov 2005 in BC.

Her second husband was Diarmuid (aka Dermid) Walker:
    - Born on 27 Mar 1919 in Larne, County Antrim, Ireland.
    - Died on 10 Feb 2004 in Victoria BC.

Myrtle and Diarmuid’s last address was 809 Portage Road, Victoria, BC, Canada. The house has since been sold twice.

I believe Myrtle and Earnest had a son called Alan Lane. There might even be some grandchildren out there somewhere.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Alice Lizzie Bish’s brother also emigrated to Canada:

Edward (aka Ted) William Bish, my grand uncle:
    - Born on 19 Dec 1894 in Croydon, Surrey, England.
    - Died on 5 December 1966 in Victoria, BC.

His wife was Doris Ada Mayle:
    - Born on 2 Dec 1902 at 1 Fellmongers Yard, South Croydon, Surrey, England.
    - Date of death unknown.

Their daughters are Dianne and, I think, Audrey.

Any information will be most welcome.

    With many thanks in advance,

    JAG98000

    Hi:

I'm new to this site so bear with me if this post isn't clear or provides you with information you already have.

On Edward's death cert. in 1966 the informant's name is 'A. Wallis' and the relationship to deceased is listed as 'daughter'.

Checking the online directories for Victoria: In 1955 for the surname WALLIS there are:
Mrs. Audrey clk BC Govt r rr 854 Carrie
    and
Robt R (Audrey) car washer Olson Mtrs h rr 854 Carrie

    https://www.vpl.ca/bccd/index.php/bro...land_Directory

The earliest year they are found listed together is 1953. I thought this might be a listing for Edward and Doris's daughter and may also indicate a time frame for her marriage.

    Dear ratatat,

Amazing! We've been looking for Audrey for a couple of years. Thank you so much for this information; I'm going to insert it into the tree without further delay.

Are you a member of the family?

    Hi:

No, I'm not a member of the family and it's just a guess based on the informant's name on the death certificate. So it may not be who you are looking for. Have you some other way to check the information?

Just in case you are not familiar with the BC Archives site I'll add the link:

    https://search-collections.royalbcmus...gy/basicSearch

That was where I saw the 'A. Wallis - daughter', and then continued the search on the Vancouver Public Library - Genealogy section.

Perhaps you could ask the forum moderator to move your post to the Canada forum. You may get additional responses on that forum. I'll keep looking as well.

I have moved your post from Introduce Yourself to the Canada forum which is more specific to your request for help.

    Hello ratatat,

It looks as if Audrey Wallis is indeed "our Audrey"... I'm very grateful to you. Thank you for the BC Archives link; that too will be very useful.

As you will see, the moderator has followed your advice and placed the thread in the Canada section.

Thank you again for your help.

    Doris Ada Bish (Mayle)

    Hi:

I wondered if you have contacted the cemetery where Edward William Bish was cremated and possibly interred to see if Doris is also located there.

They have a contact page on their website (Royal Oak Burial Park - 4673 Falaise Drive, Victoria) with a email address for questions about visiting, grave location, and general inquiries.

    Just a thought,

    Hi Again:

Through a bit of convoluted thinking I found some information relating to Dianne Bish. But thought it would be better to send it to you as a private message. Let me know if you don't receive it.
