I believe Elizabeth died between 1891 and 1901, as on October 8th at St. Peter, Stepney (district of Mile End Old Town) George Clark (son of William Clark deceased) , widower, Shipping Clerk of 54 Cleveland Street, marries Sarah Keay, widow (daughter of William Halden deceased) of 60 Nicholas Street

    and in 1901 census at RG13; Piece: 232; Folio: 100; Page: 6

    46 Busham Road Hackney

George Clark, head, married age 47, Shipping agent, born London Mile End
Sarah Clark, wife, married, age 48, born ??
Rita Keay, daughter-in-law (i.e. step daughter) age age 14, born Mile End

So it doesn't look as though George and Elizabeth actually had any children of their own.

Combining those three census, I would say he was born about 1853-1854, so he may have been the George Clarke son of William and Caroline Clarke born January 18th 1854, baptised 2nd April 1854 at St. Peter, Stepney. Father's occupation a Smith, and resident at 4 York Street, which should help locate the family in earlier census'.

    Default Impressive!

Thank you so much, Michelle for all of your help. I had the information re: Florence C.M. Tickney and thought I could find who her parents were and get George through that route. No luck. As you may have gathered by now, my direct line is actually though her sister, Amelia (Van Kempen) Williams who was the witness at their marriage. Since I was finished with the Van Kempen line and at a dead end through Amelia and her husband, I thought I would find George's family and see if they had any kids. Sometimes, you can find information from your direct line by "going in the back door". I agree with all of your deductive reasoning and shall use that to see if any of his sisters married a Tickney. If you want a real challenge, find my brick wall with Samuel John William and Amelia Van Kempen. Thanks again.

I just realised after searching "Van Kempen" that this has been covered a few years ago here

The link would be "Japanese Mariner in Middlesex" and yes, I too found all that old information from about 5 years ago. That will teach me, document, document, document. You did give me new information as well though, such as George's second wife and a second opinion on all the earlier information by Kerrywood so I shall go with that family.
