The clipper Omega sailed from England to Australia (Melbourne) in January 1855 arriving sometime in May 1855. Can anyone please confirm the port of departure? Was it London or Southampton?
thanks

Maybe both? This seems to be her clearance to leave London on 17th January:
'Morning Post', 18 January 1855
'CUSTOM-HOUSE, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17 . . . 'CLEARED OUT WITH CARGO' . . . 'Omega, for Melbourne'.
Arrival at Deal on 18th:
'Morning Post', 20 January 1855
'DEAL, January 18. - Arrived from the River and Sailed . . . . Omega, for Melbourne.'
And departure from Southampton:
'Morning Chronicle', (Wednesday) 31 January 1855
'GOVERNMENT EMIGRATION. - The Omega, chartered ship, with 334 Government emigrants, equal to 281 statute adults, sailed from Southampton on Monday afternoon for Melbourne direct. The Omega belongs to the firm of Wilson and Cox. The emigrants were under the charge of Mr. W. Arthur, surgeon.'

I found a few listings for her at Trove NLA newspapers site(address below)
This is more than likely the first mention of her.
Hugh.
Geelong Advertiser and Intelligencer Victoria. Friday 4 May 1855
Arrived
"May 3-Omega Hamuel Potter, master, ship 763 tons, from Southampton Jan 30, general cargo 336? Government immigrants."

If a birth took place on the outward journey to Australia where would the birth be registered?
The passenger list in VRO for arrivals shows George William Parsons aged 0 with his parents George and Eliza.
Will there be a similar "departure" list from England for this voyage?
