thanks for that link Lizzy. I've already sent it to family around the world. Maybe we can fill in a few more gaps now. Maybe one of the Mods can add it to the Useful Links forum.

Pleased it was useful for you, Nicolina. If only Maryland had a similar site; my 3xgrandfather settled there and their records are very thin on the ground. Would you believe - to buy a marriage certificate from Maryland you need to know both parties names, for goodness sake the reason I want a cert is to find out the birth surname of his wife!!

that's ridiculous. Unfortunately I don't think we have family in Maryland but I can ask if any of the US cousins can help.

Thanks to lizzy9 and others, I have made lots of headway.

Caroline's spouse was I believe John A. Mitchell - at least the 1910 census is somewhat clearer. Sadly he died before 1920. Caroline and he as of 1910 had been married 22 years, had 10 children of whom 8 were still alive.

As for Francis sr. and Eliza, they died a few days apart in March 1892 and are buried together at Eagle Harbor, Keweenaw County, Michigan

Francis jr. died 9 May 1906, in Adams Twp. Houghton, Michigan.

Still looking for more on this family.

    Colin
