Default Yewen family from Uley Gloucestershire Englan

Hi I am looking for information on the Yewen family from Uley Gloucestershire England. I start with Eleanor Smith Yewen 3 Mar 1773 daughter of Daniel Yewen and Elizabeth Smith they were married 4 Dec 1643 Uley. Daniel Yewen was born in 1709 in Uley his parents were Nathaniel Yewen. I have no history as to Daniel Yewen or the Yewen family. Daniel Yewen and Elizabeth Smith had eight children: Sarah, Grace,Sophia, Eleanor Smith, Elizabeth (Betty), William, Virtue, and Mary

    Sarah married Abel Thomas Hancock
    Eleanor Smith married Dennis Hollister
    Elizabeth married James Dauncey

    William show one child.
    Virtue show one child

I cannot find anything about a Nathaniel Yewen and would like to find out what their professions were.

    Regards
    Carolyn28

The dates in your post that have us confused are:

I have looked to see what early Yewen records in Gloucestershire are around.

Ancestry have the following databases included in “UK, Extracted Probate Records”:
    • Gloucestershire: - Calendar of Wills, Court of Bishop of Gloucester, 1541-1650
    • Gloucestershire: - Wills Proved in the Court of Bishop of Gloucester, 1660-1800
    From these I have found:
    Text: Yewen, Elizabeth, Uley 168
    Book: Burialls 1604. (Burial)
Collection: Gloucestershire: - Wills Proved in The Court of Bishop of Gloucester, 1660-1800

    Text: Yewen, William, Uley 154
    Book: Burialls 1604. (Burial)
Collection: Gloucestershire: - Wills Proved in The Court of Bishop of Gloucester, 1660-1800

They also have a data set called the “Millennium File”, which was compiled by the Institute of Family Research to track the records of its clients, and this has:

Name: Elizabeth Smith (Christening: 3 Mar 1723, Uley, Gloucs, Eng)
Spouse: Daniel Yewen (Marriage: 4 Dec 1743, Uley, Gloucs, Eng)
    Parents: Aaron Smith, Ester
Children: Eleanor Smith Yewen (Christening: 31 Mar 1759, Uley, Gloucs, Eng; died 9 Apr 1794, Wickwar, Gloucs, Eng). Spouse: Dennis Hollister**; children: Elizabeth Hollister, (birth: 29 Apr 1792, Wickwar, Gloucs)*** .

**Husband's Father:Thomas Hollister Husband's Mother: Sarah Dier [further history on these two is also available in this data set].

*** information about her husband and child is available in this data set.

Ancestry also has a lot of family trees which might give you pointers.

Sorry, I meant to add that I don't know where you would be able to get hold of the 2 wills listed above, but there is a useful help note in the National Archives:

The dates don't hang together, do they? I think you ought to re-check the database you're quoting from.

There is an index which includes GLS wills (with ordering information) here -

Appears to be father Nathaniels burial. from the Findmypast site:

    Surname:Yewen
    Forename:Nathaniel
    Parish:Uley
    County:Gloucestershire
    Date:31 Mar
    Year:1751
    Record source:Gloucestershire Burials
    Data provider:Gloucestershire Family History Society

On the Glos Archvies index (link given in the last post) there are several Yewen wills which might shed some light on the family in the 18th century.

Daniel's baptism record gives his mother's name as Mary, which I think you omitted by mistake from yout opening post.

From Ancestry site: Looks as though Nathaniel may also have married twice. Possible half-siblings for Daniel:

    name: Katharine Yewen
    baptism/christening date: 19 Feb 1711
    baptism/christening place: ULEY,GLOUCESTER,ENGLAND
    father's name: Nathaniel Yewen
    mother's name: Rebecca
    indexing project (batch) number: C03267-2

    name: Matthew Yewen
    baptism/christening date: 05 Sep 1714
    baptism/christening place: ULEY,GLOUCESTER,ENGLAND
    father's name: Nath Yewen
    mother's name: Rebecca
    indexing project (batch) number: C03267-2

You can use the batch number to search for all the Yewen baptisms in Uley, to build up a picture (cousins etc) which you will then hopefully confirm through the wills mentioned earlier.
    Good luck!
