    Default Local papers-Bedwellty/Ebbw Vale 1870s

Does anyone know of where any local papers for Bedwellty or Ebbw Vale areas in the late 1870s are held? I'm trying to find information on a Richard Baker who was a policeman in the area at that time and who may have been injured in a disturbance.

    Many Thanks

I've posted a relevant reply in your other thread about a local newspaper.

OK the thing to do is contact the Reference library in Newport - go to the Newport Council website and access the reference library from there or ring the council helpdesk on 01633 656656 and they will help. Just ask them what newspapers they have that covered the area for the time period.
I know they have the Monmouthshire Merlin which was for the whole of the county and covers the 1870s.
there were also some smaller newspapers - more local but they ran for short times and I am not sure of the dates. The helpdesk will either help you or put you through to the ref. library who will help.
Sadly, our dear friend Ann (alias Ladkyis) passed away on Thursday, 26th. December, 2019.

    Hi again forestlea
I remembered I once went to Aberdare library because they hold old newspaper, I think the paper was called THE ABERDARE LEADER,
not 100% certain on the name, but I can tell you that the Library staff (a Scottish Gentleman, not what you expect in the middle of the valleys) was very helpful.
