Question Wedding register for 1813, Gosport

Looking for marriage details on register for Gosport of John DILLON and Caroline SLADE married 3 Oct. 1813.
Hoping that there may be a witnesses or some other details listed. Still not sure why this couple married there when he is from Wickham. May be where she was from but haven't found out anything about her family yet.

    Thanks for any help.

The marriage took place at Holy Trinity, Gosport, Hampshire. Batch number - M07356-4, Film number - 918897.
The record can be viewed at a Family Search Center.

There are five in Taiwan but not knowing the country I don't know if they are anywhere near you.
Yuan Lin Taiwan Family History Center
    Taiwan Taichung Family History Center
Chia Yi Taiwan Family History Center
Feng Yuan Taiwan Family History Center
Hua Lien Taiwan Family History Center

If not, perhaps you know someone in another country who would be able to order the record and view it for you.

You obviously have the census for John and Caroline, she says born Bishops Waltham in abt 1796.
I cannot see a birth for her there. There is one about the right time of a Caroline Preston, daughter of Sarah christened 21 May 1794. Again you could order it in at a Family Search Centre.

I wonder if Sarah went on to marry a Mr. Slade or if Caroline made that up which is why they married out of their own parishes.
However, I suspect you have already been down these roads.

Thank you for all the help on my first BG posts. I will have to leave these exciting possibilities for a few weeks but hope to get back to this soon. My genealogical research tends to go in bursts around my work.

The census and gravestone gives a whole range of ages for Caroline ?Slade ranging from 1793-6.

    Here they are:

    1841 Census

    1841 Census Winchester Road Wickham

    John Dillon age 50 yrs.

Caroline Dillon, wife, age 46 yrs

George Dillon, son, age 24 yrs.

William Dillon, son, age 14 yrs.

James Dillon, son age 12 yrs.

Caroline Dillon, daughter, age 11 yrs.

Charles Dillon age 9 yrs (born 1832 and married an Ellen Robinson and moved to Northamptonshire)1

Mary Dillon, daughter age 7 yrs

Emily Dillon, daughter age 3 yrs.

all living Winchester Road, Wickham, Hundred of Titchfield Reg.Dist, Fareham

    1851 Census

Caroline Dillon, working for Nathaniel Beady, Farmer of 365 acres in South Village of Wickham, Hants. Married, age 52 yrs. b. Waltham , Hants. NURSE (he has elderly mother-in-law living in house, he is Widower, has adult children living there as well).

    1851 census:

John Dillon, age 65 yrs. Married, Tanner, b. Wickham, Hants

Jan Dillon, daughter, age 27 yrs. b. Wickham (who is this?)

Charles Dillon, son, age 15 yrs. b. Wickham Labourer, all living Tan Yard, Wickham.

    1861 census:

John Dillon, head, age 73 yrs. Tanner, b. Wickham, Hants. living Tan Yard Cottage, Wickham Road, Wickham.

Caroline Dillon, wife, age 65 yrs. b. B. Waltham, Hants (suggests birth c.1795/6)

John Dillon senior was buried on 2 July 1863 in Wickham.

Caroline died 28 June 1869 and buried on 1 July, Wickham (death certificate says 82 years giving a birth of c. 1787 -quite different to census).

Possibly another child –Ellen Frances12 Aug, 1863 later married George

Edmunds in 1882 on Portsea island and had 10 children.

Burials in St Nicholas, Wickham's graveyard: (from direct enquiry to church

    17/6/2010)

    John Dillon snr buried 2 July, 1863 aged 76 (b. c1787)

Caroline Dillon buried 1 July 1869 aged 76 (note a different age again! So born c. 1793)

1Information about Charles comes from a descendent's info. On Genforum.

If Caroline wasn't SLADE but Preston - then is there a SLADE of the right age around Bishop's Waltham? who might have been her father?

Some of these things very hard to work out.

John and Caroline had another son, John DILLON born c 1818 and chr 23 July 1818 in North Stoneham/Wickham. He married an Emma (almost certainly Brown) although we've found no record of a marriage.

    They had these children:
    Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000167 EndHTML:0000002933 StartFragment:0000000454 EndFragment:0000002917

    1841 census

John Dillon, head, age 22 yrs. Bricklayer, b. Wickham, Hants

Emma Dillon, wife. age 23 yrs. b. Wickham, Hants

    Harriet Dillon,daughter, age 3 yrs.

George Dillon, son, age 2 months? all living George St. Wickham, Hants. all born Hants.

Death of Harriet Jan/Mar 1846 in the Fareham Registration District Vol.7 page 57 Fareham Reg. Dist is correct for Wickham. So she died aged about 8.

The censes lets us know that John was a bricklayer born about c. 1819 (these early censes rounded ages up or down). All living at George St, Wickham.

    3) Elizabeth 1843

    4) James 1847 born in Rouen France married Lily Ann Weeden

    5) Sarah 1848 in Rouen France

(I think they were part of the first railway building project in France because engineer was British and his previous project was in Hampshire so I think he took his known labourers with him).

    6) John c.1849 (born back in Hampshire)

    1851 census:

John Dillon, head, age 32 yrs. b. Wickham, Bricklayer

Emma Dillon, wife age 33 yrs.

George Dillon, son, age 10 yrs.

Elizabeth Dillon, daughter, age 8 yrs

James Dillon, son, age 4 yrs. b. France

Sarah Dillon, daughter, age 3 yrs. b.France

John Dillon, son, age 2 yrs. b. Wickham.

all living Wickham or Fareham Road Wickham. Registration District: Fareham.

Now they're living on a new road -Wickham or Fareham Road, Wickham

    11) Edward c. 1861

Don't know if any of this will be of help. I don't know if names of John Dillon Senior and Caroline's children give us any clues about their parents, siblings ...
