Default John Golly married Mary Dinney 1847

The couple named above are my 2nd great grandparents. While I don't have the marriage certificate as yet, I do know that they married in 2nd q. 1847 in St. Austell and in the 1851 census, they are living in Churchtown, Gorran with their 2 children Charles born 1848 and Mary A. born 1850. The ref. is HO107/1908/164/3.

    John's occupation is a Labourer.

Their 1st child - Charles was born 1st q. 1848 in St. Austell R.D. vol. 9 page 22. His full name is Charles Dinney Golley [although his middle name is transcribed as Finney]. Their 2nd child Mary A. was born 2nd q. 1850 in St. Austell R.D. vol. 9 page 31. Her full name is Mary Ann Golly.

The places of birth based upon information in 1851 census is:
    Charles - St. Stephens
    Mary A. - Gorran.

I cannot find this family in 1861 census.

My great grandfather was their son - Joseph - born 1 July 1861. His birth certificate staes place of birth as Churchtown, Gerrans, which is in the R.D. of Truro in the sub-district of Saint Just. I have his baptism from Cornwall OPC on 13 August 1861.

The only 1871 census that seems to fit is RG10/2274/11/1 however, I am just not comfortable as the age of children don't jibe.

I would like the 1861 census as this would/should indicate other siblings and enable me to confirm what should be in the 1871 census.

RG 9; Piece: 1553; Folio: 6; Page: 6 transcribed by Ancestry as Gauley with the three youngest as Jolly - do these children match with what you have in 1871?
and there is a 13 yr old Charles ( born Gorran) not far away(RG9/1553 folio 15 page 11) as a blacksmith's apprentice and nephew to William Lewarn (wife Elizabeth) whose mother -in-law is Mary Golly age 61 b Mevagissey, which is the birthplace of the John Gauley on the above census. ( although the transcription says Devon it is clear enough in the original)

Colin, are this Mary and Charles Golly (not Jolly) anything to do with your family? This Charles was born in 1848.

That's the one I found too - looks possible.
Cornwall opc has the baptisms of Joseph 1861, John 1865 and William 1866 and burials of William age 1 in 1867, Alice age 24 in 1883, John age 67 in 1890 ( sudden death - inquest) and Mary age 83 in 1903.

Alice should have been 11 in 1871 but somehow got put down as 9 although the age at death matches her age in 1861. I wonder what happened to Ann, Eliza and Ellen, there dont seem to be any burials for them at Gerrans or Gorran, I haven't checked BMDs

Mevagissey records pre 1841 have not been transcribed by the opc yet but at Family search there is a baptism for John Golly 29 Sep 1822 parents William Eddy & Mary Richards Golly, and at Gorran 21 Aug 1825 Elizabeth Ann daughter of William & Mary.
Not proof yet but suggesting a good possibility which that marriage cert may well confirm.
