    Default Cancelling Ancestry subscription

Okay this isn't exactly computer help, but anyway...

I have a six month trial subscription to Ancestry, from a Family Tree Maker purchase, that expires in October.

If I cancel it now, what effect is there on my access to the site?

If you have a tree on Ancestry, you can access that only. You can do record searches, but you cannot see the results.

It ought to make no difference at all until October.

Actually, I should thank you for reminding me that I shortly need to go through the procedure of cancelling and then starting again on more favourable terms. Their policy of penalising customer loyalty is most irritating.

I have read conflicting advice on the internet. Some say the same as stepives, then again I'm sure I read in a Lost Cousins newsletter that cancelling makes no difference until the trial date...

I cancelled my subs to Ancestry, from worldwide usage. Signed up again, 2 weeks later for reduced coverage. In between times, I could access my tree, but couldn't see 'new' records, but could see the ones that relate to my tree, but unable to see or add more when searched for.

They ought to give an explanation about what happens if you cancel in their 'Terms & Conditions' or at least provide an answer via an on-screen help system - but then again it's Anc==try.

what I find annoying with Ancestry is that should I want to upgrade, I have to pay the entire amount then wait for a refund on my existing sub...really think we should be able to simply pay the difference

If you cancel a free trial, it cancels immediately and you have no access to paid for records. I always cancel mine 4 days before it expires. And I've had a few free trials in my time!
If you cancel a paid for subscription then that runs its full course.

    Thanks for the clarification.
