Please noth the above reply was supposed to be attached to the post by Nicolina of the 1851 census with the Hammonds living in Arundel.

I have Charles Hammond's marriage cert. in front of me.

He and his wife mary Ann Tapner were married on 30th May 1846 in Leominster where they both resided.

Both were single and of full age.

George Hammond deceased is listed as his father.

I have nothing to suggest George was born in 1800 other than a baptism in Chichester. Seeing as I can't be sure he was born in Sussex that's rather an assumption on my part.

Who were the marriage witnesses? Could they have been any relation to Charles, which could help identify his wider family.

I doubt this is any help but I will throw it into your pot anyway.
When I was chasing the Hammonds in Bersted I came across a Genuki entry, it lists the names on a Kelly's Post Office Directory.

Under the Commercial section there are:
    Hammond Henry, greengrocer, West street
    Hammond John, ironmonger, Dorset gardens

As Hammond is such a common name I ignored them, they may or not be related.
Might be worth trying to find them though because further down is a Tapner James, gardener.

    Any relation to Mary?
