I am new to this forum and living in the Netherlands, but born in Suriname. Trying to find information about the two people mentioned below.
Edward Francis Wilson (born in 1808) married in Guyana to Elisabeth Adair.

    Hi, Jvaalst.

I did some searching on "Guyana vital records" which turned up a site that includes this page:
    https://www.
    vc.id.au/tb/bgcolonistsW.html

I broke up the link, because I don't know if they solicit money or not.

You can CTRL+F and type in Wilson to find the entry.

    Here's the link for Adair:

    https://www.
    vc.id.au/tb/bgcolonistsA.html

Not much, but it's a start.

Hello Jeff and welcome to Brit Gen, I've looked at Guyana a while ago and their records are a bit hard to find to say the least, it may be worthwhile having a look at the Guyana Genealogical and Biographical Society website(address below).

Also you might get something from Rootsweb as they have some info at

    https://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyggbs/maps.htm

    Good luck.
    Hugh.

Hello Jeff, and welcome to the forum

The couple appear in an index of marriage banns notices compiled from the the 'Demerara and Essequebo Royal Gazette':

    https://www.
    rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyggbs/Transcriptions/RoyalGazette/RoyalGazetteTranscriptions.htm

Both Edward and Elizabeth are shown as minors and Protestants. Their birthplaces are as shown in the index found by Barb and christanel (Surinam for Edward; Nickerie for Elizabeth). In the last-but-one column it says 'Episcopal Church, Berbice'. This may be the place of intended marriage, but it's not entirely clear: it is in a column headed 'Consent' which seems to include a variety of types of information.

The date given (2 May 1832) is the date of one of the three publications of the banns notice, not the date of the marriage itself. You'd need more evidence (such as an entry in a marriage register) to prove that the couple went on to marry after the banns had been published.

I would like to add a Forum which I have belonged to for a decade or more and there are folks on there that have in-depth knowledge of islands and areas of the West Indies that doesn't appear on boards or lists. It is the Caribbean List and some researchers might just find someone on there that can assist. Link is https://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/i...CARIBBEAN.html

This group can also be accessed via News Groups (for those that remember them, grin). That is my preferred access due to the proliferation of spam which comes in via the news groups. oddly enough. Anyway I will post this on this Forum from time to time to help you out with the more obscure islands. There is also a pay site (with a free index and some free info) called Jamaica Family Search which you can find with Google. Pat Jackson runs it and it is the BEST in my book....for obvious reasons I can't give you the direct link, but you will find it. All my Spanish & British ancestors are on that site. I also found some Slave Journals a while back and when I remember where, I will post the link.....my memory is going, sigh.

All people that reacted, thanks so very much for helping and directing me.
For years I've been looking in the wrong direction due to rumours in my family.
