    Default ADAMS PETER HUBERT

    Hello:
I am new in this forums.
My name is Oscar. I live in Chile and I am researching about my grandfather, who was an English man, born in London about 1820. He was a photographer and inventor. He traveled to Chile in 1845 and died here in 1930.
It is said that he was secretary from the great explorer Livingstone during a trip to Africa to meet Stanley.
Any help about this will be very grateful.

    Greetings from Chile.

    Oscar

Hello Oscar, and welcome to the forum

You give the dates 1820-1930 for Peter (or Pedro), but some online sources suggest he was born 1830 and died 1900:

The 'Boletín de la Academia Chilena de la Historia', Issue 96, has an article on Pedro H. Adams. I can't see the whole thing but here are some bits of it:

and I think this is part of the same article:

Do you have any documents giving his middle name as Hubert? I see that on this genealogy website he is called Pedro Howard Adams:

    https://www.
    genealog.cl/Chile/A.html

(There's also a 'Bull' after these names; I am not familiar with the naming system in Chile but perhaps this is his mother's maiden name?). Here it says 'llegó a Chile 1868; acompañó a Charles Darwin, apoyándolo con la cartografía y fotografía cuando se efectuó el límite chileno-argentino en la Patagonia y de ahí surgió la "Ranita de Darwin" y un zorro al que también le pusieron su nombre; c.c. Virginia Samit.'

What is confusing me here is that Darwin's voyage to South America was in the 1830s when Peter/Pedro would only have been a child, if the dates given above are correct.
