We have a family photo of a fancy drapers shop at 22 upper st N London possible dates around 1870/1880
The name above the shop is Edward Joseph Hunt. Now although we have an Edward Jos Hunt in the family who was a draper we cannot place him in London at all

Hi perdia
Could you just clarify the number of the building, please? On another forum you've said 227 Upper Street:

Have you tried the census? Street Directories?

The 1881 census (RG 11/1665, f.127, p.32) as transcribed on FamilySearch shows Edward J. Hunt, draper's salesman, in Cambridge, with wife Esther E., and daughters Esther E. (2, born London Islington) and Edith A. (7 weeks, b. Cambridge). There is a birth registration for an Esther Elizabeth Hunt in the Islington district in the first quarter of 1879.
It might be worth looking for a baptism for Esther (e.g. on London parish records on Ancestry) or getting her birth certificate to see if the father's address is given.

The Islington Local History Centre may be able to help. They have local newspapers, directories, rate books, etc.:

In 1881, the STEABBEN family (various spellings) were at 227 Upper Street. Occupation - Draper (Fancy Draper in later censuses)
The National Archives; RG 11/226 f 66 p 15
The same family is there in later censuses
1882 PO Directory - John Steabben at 227 Upper Street, fancy draper
Are you sure about the address?

The 1871 Ref to the address is RG10 Piece 252 Folio 63 Page 15.
The interesting thing being that there is no Head. All of the residents appear to be Servants. One being from Cambridgeshire (Patton?), transcribed as Agnes I Rubbo (but looks to me more like Agnes ? Tubbs).
Could Edward Hunt have owned more than one shop? Or a chain of shops?

The 1861 Ref for Agnes Tubbs would seem to be RG9 Piece 1038 Folio 5 Page 3, and she is from Sutton, Cambs.
