Hi all,
Can a kindly person please look at the census ref: RG11/1210 f.116 pg. 6 for me?
Halfway down the page I am looking at Rose Ford's entry on the census under the 'relation to head of family' column - I am having difficulties reading what this says - is it Wife or Widow?
Also, two lines further down the census there is an entry for Mary Allen - is her age 38 or 58?
Any help in deciphering these will be much appreciated. Thank you.

I looked on Ancestry. For Rose Ford Head has been crossed out and Wife of Head substituted. Mary Allen's age is 57.

And I looked on Ancestry and FMP.
Rose is definitely 'Wife of head'.
Mary's age I would say is open to dispute. Definitely fifty-something, but I would say 51 more than 57. The enumerator's 7s are usually very clear. I also compared the 51 and 57 used in the schedule numbers. Folio and page refs 118/9 and 119/11 respectively.
(Charles Laurence, the one under Mary, is the person who is definitely 58.)

Hello Heather,
Welcome to Brit-Gen.
The Rose Ford referred to above is 22, born and living in Southampton in 1881. She's married, so Ford isn't her maiden name; from the GRO Index it looks as if she was Rose Hannah Johnson before she married Mark Ford in 1877.
I would suggest that you gather what facts you know about your Rose, e.g when she was born, name of parents/husband, where she lived, etc and then post them and your query about her in the thread for the appropriate county.
