    Default Prosser Family - Worcestshire

    Morning,

Hoping someone can help me a little bit as i've exhausted ever option i can think of!

Im looking for my great great Grandfather, William George Prosser and his family.

I have a few little details but not much so here goes:-

Born - 1879 (+/- a year) in Worcestshire (possibly Droitwich)
Occupation - Haulier at Chemical Works
Died - 1942 in Pontypool, Wales
Married - Maria Rees in Pontypool in 1914 (although on the 1911 census they've lied and said they've been married 7 years)
Father - listed on marriage certificate as William George Prosser (deceased) - Occupation Market Gardener

If anyone could help with anything I'd be most grateful!!

    Thanks

    Amie

    Hi Amielou,

Why do you think he may have been born in Droitwich?

The Record Office here is in the process of mving so is closed for another month or so.

I have had a good search for you and I cannot find a William George Prosser born in Driotwich or living in Worcestershire.
There are some William Prosser's born about 1880 in Driotwich.
However, you say that his father, with the same name, was a market gardener. I cannot find a market gardener of that name in Worcestershire.
I have how ever found a Samuel Prosser, 1881 census. Born about 1810, market gardener, Pinvin, Pershore. He cannot be the father at that age and he does have a William, one of his many sons.
He does have a daughter Ellen, aged 37, single and described as an imbecile from birth.
Now as Sam is the only market gardener I can find and he has a whole host of children, Driotwich is about 12miles away and clutching at straws, your William could be an off spring of one of the children. The only way to check this out would mean a look at the records of these Driotwich births, at Worcester Records Office.
    Cheers

Since he married and died in Pontypool, I wouldn't ignore this one -

    Births Dec 1879
Prosser William George Pontypool 11a 123

Perhaps you have already managed to eliminate that one.

Age at death was 66 according to the GRO index which suggest date of birth nearer 1876. Have you therefore considered...

    Births Sep 1876
Prosser William George Hereford 6a 503 (HEF and WOR being neighbouring counties)

Father - listed on marriage certificate as William George Prosser (deceased) - Occupation Market Gardener
Don't treat that as necessarily true. perhaps it is, perhaps it isn't.

Im only guessing at Droitwich however, on the 1911 census he gives his place of birth as worcestshire. And birth certificates are to expensive for me to order at random guesses.

    Amielou

I have details of Francis Ewart Percival Prosser born in 1902 in Hereford. He was my husbands uncle.

If you come across his name and think he fits into your tree, do let me know.

Can you give us the reference for the 1911 census for William and his wife Maria?

Also have you looked into the witnesses on the marriage certificate maybe they are related.

I see someone has post details of this family on A----sry.
    Showing children as
    Ellen Mary Beatrice. born 1905
    William Henry. Born 1907
    Lesley Walter Edward. Born 1910
Wife Hannah Maria Rees. Married 1904 Pontypool.
    Living in Cwmbran. 1911.
It also says William is a haulier and comes from Worcestershire.
Just a shot at shadows, but their first child is called Ellen. The Pinvin Prossers had a daughter Ellen.
    Cheers
    Dave.
