    Default Marriage by Certificate

I have a marriage certificate for 1871 in the Roman Catholic Church of St Mary's in Pembroke, and it says that they were married "by certificate".

I've not seen this expression before. Anyone know what it means?

    Thanks

According to Barbara Dixon's website (home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/marriages.htm - put https:// in front):

"by certificate" would be found on a marriage entry in a register office marriage register or in a non-conformist marriage register. It shows that the couple waited 3 weeks between giving notice and getting married.
