I presume that the references referred to relate to Isle of Wight Family History Society Documents.

If you want to order the marriage certificate, then you can do so from the General Register Office on line, and you will need the following references:

Registration District - Isle of Wight
    Year and Quarter 1864 Jul-Sep
    Volume 2B Page 823

    Default Thanks to Megan Roberts

I want to thank everyone who has had a hand in finding my family on the Isle of Wight. We have pictures of family members in front of houses but few have dates and many are without names just notations of where they were taken.

Some time between 1869 and 1892 Alfred William Bailey was in Antwerp, New York. He bought the family cemetery plot in 1892 and in 1893 he married Mary E. Hewitt. Since there does not seem to be any further record of the family perhaps they all immigrated to the USA.

The family bible lists Alfred's date of birth as November 14, 1869 and that is different than some records so I need to confirm. I can tell you he died on April 4th, 1907 and is buried in the Hillside Cemetery in Antwerp, NY. He had 3 sons and one daughter. Two sons died in early infancy but Ruth Jane was my grandmother.

My next step is to find a way to know what ship and date they immigrated to the USA but knowing they are not in the 1881 census really helps.

Anyone knowing the family of Martha Wheeler Bailey, I would appreciate a shout out as she was Alfred's mother and there may be family connections still on the IOW.

Alfred’s birth record is as follows:

    Name: BAILEY, Alfred William
    Registration district: Isle of Wight
    Year of registration: 1869
    Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
    Volume no:2B
    Page no: 558

I had a look in the death indices and found what I think are his parents:

    Name: BAILEY, Matthew James
    Registration district: Isle of Wight
    Year of registration: 1886
    Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
    Age at death:51
    Volume no: 2B
    Page no: 368

    Name: BAILEY, Martha
    Registration district: Isle of Wight
    County: Hampshire
    Year of registration: 1878
    Quarter of registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
    Age at death:37
    Volume no: 2B
    Page no: 413

These certificates can be ordered from the GRO using the link in my earlier post.

In the 1851 Census I think that this is probably Martha’s family:

Name Relation Condition Sex Age Birth Year Occupation Where Born
