Sorry Michelle, the only way you can do that is to buy the certificate.

    Hi John
Can I order and pay for it online or do I have to send my request by post?

Do I use Pen/4/38 at https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ or do I need another reg number?

    Hi Michelle,

The reference that you have is for the local registers only. If you want to get the certificate from the local registry it will need to be done by mail.

    The address:

    https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

    uses different registration numbers.

Unfortunately the certificate you are after is not yet on Free BMD. If you have access to a genealogical society they will probably have the GRO index for 1840 which you can search - they are alphabetical so as you know the year it should be relatively easy.

Alternatively, you could register with one of the pay per view sites such as: 1837 online. to get the number.

Thank you for your help. The people that offer their time to help people like me are just great. As I live in a small coastal town and I don't have access to any thing like this I do really appreciate it.

The reference you quote is for Pendleton - part of Salford.
You can order certificates online from Salford Register Office
    https://www.salford.gov.uk/living/bmd...h/copycert.htm

I have done this relatively recently - and the certificates came quite quickly.

Presumably - although I probably should not presume! - you can do this from abroad as well as from here - there is an email address on that link; might be worth an email first!

Hi I received the certificate today and YES it is the right one after nearly 20 years! I now have an address to look up the 1841 census. So Could somebody look up the 1841 censu for Adam and Elizabeth platt at Primrose Hill, Pendleton. I would like to thank every body for their help in finding William's birth date it is 2 May 1840.
