Ada Eleanor Mason married my ancestor Alfred John Smallbone on 26 August 1918 in Southall St John. Her registered address at the time was 15 Elmfield Road, Norwood/Uxbridge Middlesex.

After the marriage I've found Ada Eleanor Smallbone registered many times at the same address up until 1935 in the London England Electoral Registers 1847-1965 - without Alfred John but with various members of the Mason family.

I'm trying to work out what was going on and wondered whether the letters entered in the columns before the householders' listed names could give a clue. I see 'HO' 'O' 'OW' "R' and 'RO'. Can anyone explain what they mean?

Meanwhile I wonder whether Alfred John's absence could be explained by his occupation. On their marriage record he is listed as a sailor. I'll make a separate post on the 'navy' forum to ask if anyone can help about that one. I'm bemused that they both lived until the 1940's but don't seem to have any official record together after the marriage.
