I have a death certificate for an ancestor, it states his death was at Fusehill workhouse, however, the residence of the informant was 'Botcherby lodge, St Cuthbert, Carlisle'. I Googled this but came up with no useful details to give me a clue about this place. can anyone help me? Thanks

Though I cannot identify the place, you will find some clues here: https://www.geog.port.ac.uk/webmap/th...az/lk02163.htm. It is old maps etc. Botcherby, B/House, B/Mill, Botchergate are all on the clickable list. Let us know if you can find the place you are looking for.

I can see Botcherby Hall Lodge, Carlisle in the 1911 census. Have a look - the census summary books are an easy way to work out where a place was relative to other landmarks. Next to the Star Inn in this case. Very handy
You haven't told us anything about your man but this address was the gardener's residence.

If you check to the north of "CARLISLE" (printed in bold East side of map), there's a Lodge on Warwick Road and Botcherby Hall nearby"dyfal donc a dyr y garreg"
