I think I have got this into a JPEG now and hopefully it is on Photobucket but you never know. This is a very long will (over 3 pages) with quite a few repeats so I am hoping that if I can get some help with a the first few that I will sail through the rest. I haven't uploaded the whole thing as I need to try as much as possible to get to grips with this. As Kerrywood says - practice makes perfect. This chap was clearly very affluent and seems to be leaving stock rather than money although he talks about 'four thousand pounds stock' or whatever and each time he uses that phrase something follows which I cannot read. Is it 'gilts' perhaps? I haven't found a birth for him (abt. 1737) or any of his brothers but I do have his marriage. Anyway, as ever, all help will be gratefully received.

I am not sure what this four per cents would mean but it definitely looks like that. Throughout the will there are words that look as though they begin with a Q but don't make sense so there must be another letter in the alphabet that is similar. The B he uses is very odd too - very curly. Thanks so much for having a go!

Indeed it is Thomasin and another 3 1/2 pages to go! I think the Pickering near Ferry Bridge works as the rr looks like zz and it is the same in Surrey looks like suzzy. TVM

I'm not convinced by the very first line. Are you sure it's London? The capital letter of this word looks the same as that of the word preceding it, more like an S.

PS So - a 't' that looks like an 'm' and an 'N' that looks like 'Qr'!! I must say I was leaning towards Nicholas, but just couldn't make the letters fit.

After looking again, yes, I still think it's Lane London.

I agree it looks like S, but in these excerpts I can't see another capital S to compare. Comparison of letter-forms is the key.
