    Is there any chance that his death could have been registered elsewhere? If he had been staying with a son or daughter (who lived elsewhere) when he died, they would have registered it locally.

    That has happened to a couple of mine - ended up in places where I would not have considered. I had to trace the children of one of my ancestors in one case and their cousin in another.

    The only other place that I know that William could be at is Hendon where my grandad was married in 1940.

    Other than that, it's likely that William died in 1942.
