Being new at researching my family tree, i am trying to find the first marriage of my great, grandfather Henry Clarke b1817 in Ely Cambridgeshire, so i can obtain their marriage certificate.
The only facts i know is her Christian name was Elizabeth born 1817 +/- 2 years, she died in 1843 in Doddington Workhouse, Doddington, Cambridgeshire.
They had two children
Joseph 1838-1844 also died in the same workhouse
Susan b1840
What i can`t find out is where she was born and where they got married

Hi Happyfeet and welcome to the forum.
Is this the correct family in the 1841 census? If not, do you have a census reference?
1841: Piece 83; Book: 2; Folio: 8; Page: 9; Line: 21 (crown copyright, care of the TNA)
High Street
CLARKE, Henery 24, basket maker, Y
CLARKE, Elizabeth 23, N
CLARKE, Joseph 3, N
CLARKE, Susan 1, Y
If it is, then we can look for a likely birth certificate for Susan first, before hunting for a marriage for the parents.

Hi. Just on off-chance this was the correct family, I looked for a baptism for Susan yesterday. There is this...
Susannah, bap. on 05 Apr 1840 at Cottenham, Cambridgeshire. Birth date: 24 Jan 1840. Parents Henry CLARK and Elisabeth. Abode: Cottenham. Father's occupation: Basket maker.

From which I think you will find that this is the likeliest birth in the index (since Cottenham was in the Chesterton registration district at this time)...
Births Mar 1840 Chesterton 14 51
Clark Susannah
If you order her birth certificate, this should give you her mum's maiden name and then you can look for a marriage.

I happen to have the CD-ROM of the Cottenham Parish Registers, and Susannah's date of birth has been transcribed as 22nd January (not 24th). Also, it says 'dau of Henry & Elizabeth [[of Manea]]'. How far is that from Cottenham?
There is no sign of Joseph, so presumably he was born elsewhere - Manea?
