I'm looking for the death of Ann Redman, I see on FMP there is a listing for an Ann Redman dying in 1852 in Alford Surrey born 1773. I believe this is the one I'm interested in, but there doesn't seem to any listing for this death on Ancestry or on FreeBMD. Could someone verify the details on this listing for me.
Thanks,
Gerald

Unfortunately Gerald only the year of burial is given, no month.
I've looked at the GRO index and cannot find an entry.

I think what you're looking at is a burial recorded in a parish register.
Is that the right place? What does the actual record say? (5 credits is cheaper than a death certificate!)
Procedures were not foolproof in those days and not all deaths were registered properly in the civil registers.

It may be that there’s a transcription error in the parish records collection on FMP as this burial seems to fit with the 1857 death in the GRO indexes: Hambledon RD Dec Q, vol.2a p. 62.

Ann seems to be on the 1851 census.
Alfold, Sussex
Registration district is Hambledon
Sub-registration district is Witley
HO107/1597 F287 P12
There is a Mary Ann Renmant 2a/53
and a Mary Ann Renmont 2a/?3
Maybe the same person in Hambledon registered in Dec 1852
Possible?
EDIT
Malcolm's find seems more likely.Last edited by Mutley; 27-09-2011 at 10:11 PM. Reason: Added EDIT

You can't do genealogy by index!
The way forward is for Gerald to examine the parish burial register. With good luck and a following wind, there may be enough information to confirm that it does relate to the 'right' Ann Redman (the burial register for that period should indicate the age and abode of the deceased).
As mentioned briefly above you shouldn't be too surprised if you find that the death wasn't registered properly.
