    Default MANASSEH SALMON

Manasseh Salmon marries Jane Jerrome/Jearam in Chisledon in 1845,have 3 children and leave for Australia in 1854.I have Jane's baptism in 1821,parent's marriage and Jane on 1841 census.
Class HO 107 Piece 1179 Book 10 Swindon District 9.
I can see nothing for Manasseh on 1841 and 1851 census, though i have no definite location of his birth.
    I have two questions,
    Jane's location in 1841,workhouse etc?
Is Manasseh a name that would be abbreviated or might he have used another name altogether?

He may have called himself William Salmon.

When googling for the name Manasseh Salmon I found a transcript of a 'Colac Court of Petty Sessions register 1849-1865' at

    https://
    wiki.prov.vic.gov.au/images/1/14/ColacCourts1849-1865.pdf

One document, dated 26 Nov. 1862, is headed 'Deposition of Manasseh Salmon' and ends with 'the mark of Manasseh Salmon'. However, the deposition begins 'And this deponent William Salmon upon his oath saith as follow: I am a farmer at Sunny Hills . . . '.

This is on pages 320-321 of the transcript (I am referring to the numbers at the foot of each page, not the big red numbers).

A Manasseh Salmon born (or baptised?) 1820 is mentioned on this site about Finchingfield, Essex:

    https://www.
    btinternet.com/~roger.beckwith/Finchingfield/genealogy.htm

His sister Mahala emigrated to Australia in 1854 according to a query posted there.

Finchingfield is one of those rare places for which some pre-1841 censuses have survived. I can see from Google search results that there is a Manasseh Salmon in one of these census transcripts, but I can't open the Excel file. Here's the link for those who have the right software:

This would be about the right age for the Manasseh Salmon who emigrated. He died 11 March 1891 aged 73
(therefore born about 1818) according to Beeac cemetery records (from monumental inscriptions I think):

You will find a likely looking baptism for Manasseh in 1820 on FreeREG.

    Thanks to both of you.
Beeac is the town in Victoria where he settled and many of his descendants live there today.I am tracing the Salmon line for an elderly descendant of Manasseh who has no computer skills so this will please him no end
I now have plenty of sites to visit and put more flesh on bones.
