    Yes, it's very confusing.
    Probably the two granddaughters are cousins rather than sisters.

    thankyou for help , much to unravel !! , i agree that the 2 granddaughters were cousins , also i think you are right that ann/maria married again at some point .

    Just to add a little bit to the confusion....

    There is a death registration in March 1893 in Gravesend for
    Annie Maria West born 1862, she is 31 years old. 2a/369

    I cannot seem to find her on the census but I obviously do not know if this Annie Maria was married or single when she died.

    I think I have found her in 1891 married to a George West, possibly with a maiden name of Scott so she can be discounted as having anything to do with your Annie Maria.
