    Red face Hayward's

Looking for a Joseph Hayward born 1864 in the Gloucestershire, England area. He married _________? and they had at least one son named Joseph Hayward born 1895 in Birmingham, England and died in 1977. He married Florence Beatrice May French born 1898. Joseph and Florence had a child named John Dennis Hayward born 1925 died 1986. Trying to track more information on the Joseph b 1864 and his wife and other children/siblings...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi there,

I don't have access to the 1901 census, but noticed on an index a Joseph HAYWARD, living in Birmingham and b 1864 Alderton, Gloucestershire. Is this your Joseph?

IGI Family Search has this baptism at Alderton, Glos:

Joseph HAYWARD 28 Dec 1862, mother Mary HAYWARD [Batch C02534-4]

Checking on the Batch Number, this is the only Joseph HAYWARD listed, there are no other baptisms recorded for Mary, but several for William and Hannah HAYWARD, the only others in the parish with the HAYWARD name at that time.

Also on IGI there is this marriage:

Joseph HAYWARD m Emma HEALEY St Peter and St Paul, Aston, Warwickshire [Batch M00711]
The entry notes that the groom is single, 23 (b 1862), and the bride is single and 19 (b 1866) The grooms father's name is William HAYWARD, the brides father is Henry HEALEY.

My GUESS is that this is the Joseph baptised at Alderton, with a single mother, Mary. I think its likely that William and Hannh were Mary's parents, and brought Joseph up.

I'll be interested to see if the Joseph in Birmingham in 1901 has a son Joseph around 5 or 6, and a wife named Emma anyway!

    Aha..good. Thanks Richard,

I must admit I didn't check freecen, not sure if they've covered B'ham in 1901 yet. familysearch only has an index for 1901, not the full household etc ....unfortunately.

    FYI 1901
HAYWARD, Joseph Head Married M 37 1864 Platelayer Railway. Alderton. Gloucestershire
HAYWARD, Emily Wife Married F 33 1868 Handsworth. Staffordshire
HAYWARD, Henry Son Single M 16 1885 Birmingham
    HAYWARD, Louisa Daughter F 8 1893 Birmingham
    HAYWARD, Joseph Son M 6 1895 Birmingham
    HAYWARD, William Son M 4 1897 Birmingham
    HAYWARD, Walter Son M 1 1900 Birmingham
    SMITH, Walter Visitor Married M 37 1864 Navvy General. N K Oxfordshire
SMITH, Laura Visitor Married F 33 1868 Alderton. Gloucestershire

There is a possibilty that the two visitors are married and Laura a sister of Joseph.
I'm only 4 miles from Alderton if you want anything.

Found Joseph Hayward's born 1864 parent's (ordered his birth certificate) father is William Hayward and mother is Mary "Heston", "Weston" (can't read it very well) living in Arlingham. Than found family all living on Warth Farm, Arlingham, Gloucestershire with brother and sisters Edward b. 1860, Joseph b. 1865, Mary b. 1868 and Frederick b. 1871. Also next home a Clara Hayward (sister) to MaryAnn Greed...still going!

    Hi Alby65
    You on a roll now.
See if you can keep it going and shout if you need help.

In the early 1900's there used to be a big shop in Winchcombe called Hayward's.
    Just 4 miles from Alderton.
I have a photo somewhere. I wonder if there is any link.
