    Default JOHNS, Warwickshire

When James JOHNS joined the RMA at Portsmouth in 1835 he gave his date of birth as 1816 at Soley Hill (Solihull?). I have found him in various records but can't link anybody before him, except that his marriage certificate (Portsmouth) states that his father was Thomas JOHNS, a miller by trade but I think "miller's assistant" is more likely. Any help to unstick g-g-grandfather Thomas would be very much appreciated.

Please could you confirm I have the right man,
is he the James that married Ann Spence in 1842?

Which census have you found him in?

    Hi Mutley

Yes, the same James (my g-grandfather). His wife Ann (Nancy) states that he is abroad at time of 1851 census. He does appear on 1861 (R.G. 9/644 Portsea, Portsmouth) and 1871 (R.G. 10 1148 Portsea, Portsmouth).

Hope that helps. Do you have anything on this line please?
