Default Could this family be of Jewish origin?

Hi, I'm researching some details from my mum's side of the family. I wonder if Henry Hart who was born 1853 Stanley, Derbyshire and died 1926 Stanley, Derbyshire was Jewish?

His 1st marriage was in 1879 to Martha Slater and his 2nd marriage was in 1903 to Lydia Allsop.
It is the second marriage that our family tree is attached to.

Maybe I'm wrong but it is only an idea that I think he may have been Jewish because of his name 'Hart'.
Any ideas to how and where to start looking?
    Thanks Lynn

What does it say on his birth certificate? What were his parents' names?

Hi, I haven't purchased his birth certificate yet, but I know Henry Hart's parents names.
They were Joseph Hart and Mary Thompson Cotton.
    Their occupation were Grocers.

Do you think I should buy their birth certificates?

I assumed that since you were interested in his ancestry, you would have his birth certificate!

    Hello Lynn,

Although the name of Hart may be used as a Jewish name, it is also pretty widespread amongst non-Jews.

My grandfather was James Hart - a Roman Catholic Irishman!

As has been advised, the birth certificates will help - as will the marriage certificates to Martha and Lydia. If they wed in a Parish Church, then I would not be concentrating on a Jewish background.
