Default How do I prove they lived in W.Bridgford?

The 1911 Census shows JOSEPH JACKSON (32) and LOUISA JACKSON (29) living in Outwell Basin - Norfolk.
LOUISA'S sister died tragically in that area in 1926. Our family are 'convinced' Joseph & Louisa were living in Nottingham between 1927 to 1931 (possibly longer) as my FATHER went to live with them 'til the early 30's his name was WILLIAM ARTHUR JACKSON. This is one of those 'stab in the dark' questions isn't it? Would there have been an electoral roll or any kind of registration of families (in West Bridgford we think) in the late 20's that remotely points to JACKSONS living in this area? Any 'pointers' would be appreciated. tjack

Do you have an idea of any trade the men would have had? This might allow looking up in Trade Directories of the area.
Do you a date of death for either Joseph or Louisa? Have you tried for probate of Wills at all? these will help to find the area they last lived in. Once you have a street address, it's easieer to find an electoral entry.

    Hi tjack
    Link to historic directories:

    historicaldirectories.org/hd/

Might be worth googling William Arthur Jackson

Trade and telephone directories and electoral rolls for West Bridgford would be held by Nottingham Local Studies Library. You could contact them and see what they hold for that period.

Can you wait until next year? Findmypast have just announced that electoral rolls 'for the century that followed the Reform Act of 1832' are to be put online in 2012.

Nottingham Central Library has excellent coverage for Nottinghamshire Electoral Rolls for that period. It is just difficult knowing where to start without an address/street of some sort....

Just had a quick squiz in Ancetrys "British Phone Books,..there are several Joseph Jacksons ,not all in Nottingham. One is listed in 1928 to 1939 as Joseph Jackson, 44 Derby Gro. 'ottingham'(sic) or 44 Derby Gro.Grosverner Nottingham.

The other for same years is Joseph H Jackson at 50 Davies Rd W.B. exchange: Nottingham ..City, Nottingham.
    1937 to 1940, at 13 Burleigh Rd. W. B. Nottingham. That's all I found there.

These are two 'well known' roads in Bridgford. The Derby Grove address is on the other side of town.

Kelly’s 1941 Directory of Nottinghamshire shows a ‘Jsph. Hy Jackson’ living at 13 Burleigh Road, West Bridgford. Does the ‘Henry’ narrow him down for you?

In Kelly's 1925 Directory of Nottinghamshire there’s no entry in Davies Road for a Jackson – in fact there is no ‘No.50’ so it must have been a new build between 1925 and 1928. Burleigh Road isn’t in the Directory either so that road had yet to be built.
