Hi, I am searching for information about the Linnell family from Kislingbury. My great grandmother Lavinia Linnell married James Walter Eales c1879 in Bugbrooke church, does anyone have any details about Lavinia's parents or grandparents? I would be grateful if anyone can help.
Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul
Do you have an approximate birth date for your great grandmother?
Also, have you checked the census for your Lavinia? I see a Lavinia Linnell born about 1860 in Kislingbury, Northamptonshire. Her parents are William and Mary.
Does this sound like your gt grandmother?

A slight mis-spelling, but could be your Lavinia's birth registration. Please double-check the reference:
September quarter 1859, Levina LINNELL, Northampton district, volume 3b, page 77
That certificate should confrm her parents, and provide her Mum's maiden name.

You might want to look on family search. There are a fair number of christenings for children of William and Mary Linnell. This looks like Lavinia's ...
Levina Linnell
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 15 May 1864
baptism/christening place: Kislingbury, Northampton, England
father's name: William Linnell
mother's name: Mary

In the 1851 census there a approx 3/4 Mary Baileys that could be yours.
I chose to look at this one first even though she is 2 years younger than she should be, because Mary said in 1871 she was born Harpole and that is the closest of them to Kislingbury. This is an interesting record.

Workhouse Yard
John Linnell 44 ag lab
Frances Linnell 38 lace maker born Dustan
Caroline 11
Samuel 7

next door
Richard Jeffs 72 Ag lab
Ann 66
Thomas 30 ag lab
Next door
William Jeffs 48 Greens Morton
Sara 38
MARY BAILEY 17 Daughter Lacemaker
Jane Ward 70 mother Bramston
All without their birthplace next to them were born Kislingbury.
So a Linnell family living next door to a Mary Bailey who is down as the dau of a Jeffs who's mother is a Ward. So is William Jeffs actually Mary's step father? Did his mother remarry a Ward after William's father's death?
Is this actually your Mary Bailey?
To be certain of Mary's father's name and occuption you need the marriage certificate.Last edited by Kerrywood; 07-02-2011 at 12:38 AM. Reason: added required acknowledgement to TNA

Given that William was living next door to a Samuel and Elizabeth Linnell in 1871 this could be his baptism.

Well it seems the enumerator was not specific when noting the relationship to head of household in 1851. It seems Jane ward is Sarah's mother going by this marriage record
Marriages Sep 1/4 1841 William Jeffs, Sarah Ward Northampton vol 15 page 401.
This 1851 census record may be nothing to do with your Mary Bailey at all and only the marriage cert will tell.
