There is a christening for an Edward BRETT at Wimborne Minster, Dorset on 05 Aug 1804. Son of Robert.
    (Dorset FHS)

There are some other BRETT children christenings in Wimborne Minster. Do you have these?

I do not have the other christenings.
I would be very thankfull if you would send them to me.

There is a Robert Brett in a list of patrons
    in " Slade " ledgers of " Fogo ' Nfld., from 1784.

    This looks promising!

I have " Edwards " history from arrival in Nfld.,
    if anyone is interested.

Hi again Brett. I was just about to ask why you thought Edward Brett was born in Wimborne. Then I found the will you mentioned. I'll post a link to the will for others to look at - I hope that's ok.

    https://
    ngb.chebucto.org/Wills/britt-edward-3-160.shtml

    He states ...

"I Edward Britt native of the town of Wimbourne in the County of Dorset England"

I'll just go and read the rest of it. Do you have any idea where his wife Mary Guy was from? Do you think they married somewhere in England.

Charles BRETT on 21 Oct 1799 at Wimborne Minster, Dorset. Son of Robert

Robert BRETT on 14 Nov 1802 at Wimborne Minster, Dorset. Son of Robert & Catharine

Edward BRETT on 05 Aug 1804 at Wimborne Minster, Dorset. Son of Robert

John BRETT on 05 Jun 1811 at Wimborne Minster, Dorset. Son of Robert & Mary. 2 years old

I thought I'd check the census, to see if I could see any of these BRETT/BRITT children. It occurred to me that if Edward did turn up in the UK census then that might place a spanner in the works for him being your Edward. Anyway, I could only find one Brett/Britt individual from Winborne in the census and that was John ...

There are a number of John Brett and Jane marriages. This one in Hampshire looks like a good possibility as the census indicates Jane was born in Hampshire ..

    groom's name: John Brett
    bride's name: Jane Rose
    marriage date: 1835
marriage place: Southampton, All Saints, Hampshire
    (from family search)

Of course we don't now as yet if John is a brother to your Edward. Also, the marriage date is long after Edward left for Newfoundland, so I wouldn't expect to see him as a witness to the marriage. However, the witnesses could be other relations and may provide clues. It's another possible item to add to your list.

Note: there are a number of children of the above John and Jane listed on family search if you wish to take a look for yourself.
